Window Graphics
in Colorado Springs
& Wall Vinyl

Window graphics in Colorado Springs: vinyl lettering and logos on glass, frosted privacy film, perforated one-way graphics and wall murals. The fastest, cheapest way to brand a space, and the standard answer while a permanent sign works through permit review.

The two things worth knowing

A quarter of the glass,
and a ratio that decides everything

One local rule and one material spec cover most of what people get wrong about window graphics.

WINDOW SIGN CAP, COLORADO SPRINGS 25% MAXIMUM Remaining glass stays clear No permit required. First-floor glass only. Lighting is permitted. Confirmed against the current code. PERFORATED FILM RATIOS 70/30 Densest graphic 60/40 Storefront standard 50/50 Most light inside First number is printable film, second is open holes. More film means a stronger graphic from the street. More holes mean more daylight for the people inside. Holes are typically around 1.5 mm across.

Four ways to use glass
and one to use a wall

Each of these solves a different problem, and the wrong film in the right place is the most common regret in this category.

Cut vinyl lettering and logos

Name, hours, phone number and services, cut from solid vinyl and applied to the glass. Durable, crisp at close range, and the least expensive way to look like an established business. It is what most storefronts actually need.

Frosted privacy film

The look of acid-etched glass without the cost or the permanence. Privacy bands on conference rooms, logo panels on glass doors, and full frosted partitions in offices. Removable, which matters when you are leasing.

Perforated one-way graphics

Full colour printed graphics across the glass that staff can still see out through in daylight. The right choice for a big seasonal message or a covered window that still needs light. Read the night-time caveat below.

Wall vinyl and murals

Printed wall graphics, cut lettering, mission statements behind a reception desk and full wall murals in gyms and clinics. Applied to smooth painted walls, and removable without taking the paint with it.

The night-time reversal nobody mentions

One-way vision depends on the outside being brighter than the inside. Once your interior lights are on and it is dark out, the effect weakens and reverses. The graphic loses its punch from the street and the interior becomes more visible from outside. That is physics, not a defect, and it is the single most common source of disappointment with perforated film. If evening hours matter, decide it at quote time rather than at the first evening walkthrough.

Timing

The bridge while a permanent sign gets approved.

Permit review is usually the longest part of any exterior sign project, and a business that opened last week cannot wait six weeks to be identifiable. Window graphics need no permit, so they can go up almost immediately.

Plenty of businesses put lettering on the glass first and keep it after the channel letters go up, because the two do different jobs. One is read from the road, the other from the sidewalk.

Colorado exposure

South and west glass ages fastest.

At 6,035 feet the UV load here is stronger than it is at sea level, and film on a south or west elevation takes far more of it than film on the north side of the same building.

Cut vinyl lettering is durable and long lived on glass. Printed perforated film has a shorter service life, because it is a printed surface with open holes facing the weather. We specify to the exposure rather than using one product on every window.

Window graphics in Colorado Springs: common questions

Do window graphics need a permit in Colorado Springs?

Window signs do not need a permit, but they are capped at 25 percent of the window, first-floor glass only. That combination is why window graphics are the usual answer when a business needs signage up quickly while a permanent exterior sign works through permit review. We confirm against the current sign code on every project, since the City adopted a new sign ordinance in February 2026.

What does 60/40 mean on perforated window film?

The first number is the printable film area and the second is the open hole area, so 60/40 film is 60 percent film and 40 percent holes. More film gives a denser, more saturated graphic from the street. More open area gives the people inside more daylight and better visibility out. 60/40 is the common storefront choice, and 50/50 suits spaces where staff sit behind the glass all day.

Can people see in through perforated film at night?

Yes, and this surprises people. The one-way effect depends on the outside being brighter than the inside. Once interior lights are on and it is dark out, the effect weakens and reverses: the graphic loses impact from the street and the interior becomes more visible. If the space matters after dark, that is worth deciding at quote time rather than finding out at the first evening walkthrough.

What is the difference between frosted film and etched glass?

Frosted vinyl film gives the look of acid-etched or sandblasted glass at a fraction of the cost, and it is reversible. It is applied to the glass and can be removed or changed when the space changes, which matters in leased offices. Real etched glass is permanent and has to be replaced to be altered. For conference rooms, privacy bands and logo panels, film is almost always the sensible answer.

How long do window graphics last?

It depends on the film and the exposure. Cut vinyl lettering on glass is durable and long lived, while printed perforated film has a shorter service life because it is a printed surface with open holes facing the weather. At 6,035 feet the UV load here is stronger than at sea level, and south and west facing glass ages fastest. We specify the film to the exposure rather than using one product for every window.
