Almost nobody calls an electrician at midnight. They think about calling one for three weeks, then pick a name they have seen around.
That single difference should reshape an electrical van compared with a plumbing or HVAC vehicle. There is no burst pipe equivalent driving urgent searches, so the graphics are not competing to be found in a crisis. They are competing to be familiar during a slow decision, and to signal that you do the specific thing the customer has in mind.
Here is what that means in practice, along with the two design constraints electricians deal with that other trades do not: racks full of conduit, and an audience of other contractors.

The typical electrical job starts as an idea rather than an emergency. Someone buys an electric vehicle and needs a charger. A panel is undersized for a remodel. A hot tub, a detached garage, a generator, a finished basement. These are considered purchases with weeks of lead time.
Three consequences for the design:
- Repetition beats urgency. Being seen twenty times in the same neighborhoods over a summer does more than any single dramatic sighting. That favors consistent branding across every vehicle over one loud flagship.
- Capability naming matters more than in other trades. A homeowner thinking about a charger is looking for someone who installs chargers, not for an electrician in general.
- The phone number matters slightly less than in plumbing, because the call happens later from a search rather than immediately from the road. It still belongs there, large. It just is not carrying the whole load.
Panel upgrades and charger installations concentrate in neighborhoods by housing stock and vintage. A van parked in the same subdivision for two days is advertising to households with the same wiring, the same panel age, and increasingly the same new vehicle in the driveway.
Two Audiences
This is the part most electrical wraps ignore. Your van is read by homeowners and by other trades, and the second group hires more work than the first.
Want reassurance and relevance. Respond to a clear capability line, a license reference, a local identity, and a vehicle that looks maintained.
See your van on job sites. They are evaluating whether you look organized, whether the crew shows up, and whether the truck suggests a company that can carry a schedule.

Two or three, in readable type. These are the categories permits actually get pulled for in this region, and they are what people search by name.

Pick the two or three you most want more of. The van is a filter, not a catalog.
Licensing and Registration
Electrical is one of the trades Colorado licenses at the state level, which gives you a credential worth referencing.
Electricians and electrical contractors are licensed through the state electrical board, and contractors working in the Pikes Peak region also register with Pikes Peak Regional Building Department in order to perform permitted work in this jurisdiction. How to handle it on the vehicle
- One reference, current and accurate. A single number reads as accountability. Several read as filler.
- Small, near the company name or door edge. It is a reassurance element rather than a headline.
- Confirm any display requirements with the licensing authority, since requirements can change and we produce from the information you provide.

The Conduit Carrier Problem
Electrical vans carry more external hardware than almost any other trade vehicle, and it is the single most common reason a design has to be reworked after the fact.
What typically sits on or across the graphic area:
- Conduit carriers, the long tubes mounted along the roof line or down the side of the van, often crossing the upper third of a side panel.
- Ladder racks and drop-down ladder systems, which occupy roof edges and can shade or block upper graphics.
- Roof-mounted bins and cargo boxes.
- Rear step bumpers, hitch receivers, and tow equipment across the lower rear.
- Cord reels and exterior mounts on service body units.
Not a stock image of the model. A design built from a manufacturer template and applied to a van with a conduit carrier across the side ends up with the company name interrupted by a tube. Relocating hardware afterward costs more than designing around it, and repositioning a graphic means reprinting a panel.

Laying Out a Rack-Loaded Van
Given the hardware, here is the layout logic that survives contact with a real service vehicle.
- Anchor the company name in the middle band of the side panel, below any conduit carrier and above the rocker panel, where nothing is mounted and road spray does not reach.
- Keep capability copy on the same band, smaller, so the whole message sits in one clean horizontal zone.
- Treat the rear doors as the phone number surface. In traffic that is where sustained attention lands, and rear hardware is usually lower than the useful area.
- Leave the upper third flexible. Color field, yes. Critical content, no, because a rack added next year will cross it.
- Avoid the sliding door track as a location for anything that must stay continuous.
The result tends to look calmer than a full-coverage design that fights the hardware, and it survives fleet changes better, since a van that gets a new rack in year three does not lose its name.
Color, Contrast, and Not Looking Like a Utility
Electrical branding gravitates toward yellow, orange, and high visibility safety colors for obvious associative reasons. That works, with two cautions.
- Do not accidentally look like a utility vehicle. A van in safety yellow with reflective striping can read as the power company rather than as a contractor, which is memorable in the wrong way.
- Yellow needs dark type. White text on yellow is close to unreadable at distance, and it is one of the most common contrast failures we see on trade vehicles.
Better approaches: a strong single accent color used as a field with dark type over it, or a dark base with a bright accent for the name. Both give recognition at distance without the safety vehicle association.
Whatever palette you choose, contrast is what carries the message. Test the design at 50 feet before approving it. That is also the federal legibility standard for required commercial markings, so designing to it handles both jobs at once.
The Apprentice Van Problem
Electrical companies grow by adding people, and people need vehicles. The pattern is familiar: a nice wrapped van for the owner, then a used van bought quickly for the new hire that never gets branded.
That unbranded van does three things wrong. It advertises nothing while driving your routes, it looks unaffiliated on a job site where a general contractor is forming an impression, and it makes the fleet look smaller than it is.
The inexpensive fix
A lettering package at $350 to $900 puts the name, number, and one capability line on any vehicle within days. It is not a wrap, but it is not anonymous either, and on a used white van with a shared design system it reads as part of the fleet.
Then upgrade on a schedule rather than by mood: wrap the highest mileage vehicle each year, keep everything else lettered, and let the design system hold it together. Artwork and vehicle templates stay on file, so a van added in 2028 matches the ones done this year.

Timeline and Care
Two to three weeks from approved estimate and deposit, with one to three days in the install bay. Lettering is faster, usually days. Fleet installs stage one or two vehicles at a time so your crews keep working.
Electrical work is less seasonal than the mechanical trades, which is an advantage here: there is no equivalent of a freeze event you have to schedule around. If anything, late winter is a good window, before construction season picks up and before residential project inquiries build through spring.

- Hand wash rather than brush washes, which catch graphic edges.
- Keep pressure washer wands back from seams and terminations.
- Rinse magnesium chloride off after winter storm driving.
