Brochure Printing
in Colorado Springs
& Direct Mail
Brochure printing in Colorado Springs, plus direct mail. Tri-folds and bi-folds, sell sheets, booklets, rack cards, postcards and Every Door Direct Mail. Folded correctly, printed to a proof you approved, and mailed to a route or a list rather than into the void.
Figures from the ANA/DMA Response Rate Report. Untargeted saturation mailings sit well below these numbers, which is the honest trade for their lower cost per piece.
Why tri-fold panels are
not all the same width
One panel has to tuck inside the other two. If all three are equal, the piece bows, the fold creeps, and text ends up sitting in the crease.
This is the most common problem we find in brochure files that arrive from elsewhere. Build it correctly or send us the content and our design team will.
Formats, and what each
one is actually for
Choose by how the piece gets used rather than by how much room the content needs. A brochure someone carries home is a different object from one that has to survive a mailbox.
| Format | Common size | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Tri-fold brochure | 8.5 x 11 in flat | Several services to explain, and a piece that fits a rack or a pocket |
| Bi-fold brochure | 11 x 8.5 or 11 x 17 in flat | Larger images matter more than panel count, such as property or menu work |
| Sell sheet | 8.5 x 11 in | One product or service, left behind after a meeting or a site visit |
| Rack card | 4 x 9 in | Display racks, counters and hotel lobbies, where it competes with twenty others |
| Booklet | 8.5 x 11 or 5.5 x 8.5 in | Catalogs, programs and capability documents that need real page count |
| Mailer postcard | 6.25 x 9, 8.5 x 11, 9 x 12 in | The message has to land without being opened, which is most local campaigns |
Folded pieces can be mailed too, provided they meet the size and weight rules and are sealed where required. Full postcard and EDDM specifications are on the commercial printing page.
EDDM, by neighborhood
Every address on a chosen postal carrier route, with no mailing list at all. Pick the routes around a job you just finished and the neighbors get the card that week.
Right for service businesses working a defined part of the city.
A list, by person
Named recipients who fit a profile, or better, your own customers. Costs more per piece and responds several times better.
If you have customer records sitting in a spreadsheet, start there.
Three things that decide whether it works
Postage is paid to USPS and sits outside the print estimate, so budget the two separately.
Sending us a brochure file
Build it flat, at final size, with the panel widths above. Add 0.125 inch of bleed on every edge and keep text at least 0.25 inch inside the trim and away from each fold.
Send a press ready PDF. CMYK color, images at 300 dpi at final size, fonts outlined or embedded, and pages in reading order rather than printer order.
Not sure the panels are right? Send it anyway. We check bleed, trim, fold placement and resolution before anything goes to press, which is the point of prepress.
Brochure printing in Colorado Springs: common questions
Why are the panels on a tri-fold brochure different widths?
Because one panel has to tuck inside the other two. On a standard 8.5 by 11 inch letter fold, two panels are roughly 3.6875 inches and the panel that folds inward is about a sixteenth of an inch narrower, so it does not bind or bow the piece when it closes. Artwork built as three equal panels is the single most common brochure file problem we fix, and it shows up as text creeping into the fold.
What response rate should I expect from direct mail?
The ANA/DMA Response Rate Report puts the overall average around 4.4 percent, against roughly 0.12 percent for email. The spread underneath that average matters more than the average itself: mailings to a house list of existing customers typically run 5 to 9 percent, cold prospect lists run about 2 to 4.4 percent, and untargeted saturation mailings sit well below that. Who you mail moves the number far more than what you print.
Should I use EDDM or a targeted mailing list?
It depends on whether geography or the individual matters more. EDDM mails every address on a chosen postal carrier route with no list, which suits service businesses that want one part of town, and it is the cheaper route per piece. A targeted list mails named people who fit a profile, costs more per piece, and responds better. If you already have customer records, mailing that house list is usually the highest return option of the three.
How much does brochure printing cost in Colorado Springs?
Brochures are quoted per project. Quantity is the biggest lever, since setup is spread across the run, followed by size, stock, whether it is folded or scored, and the turnaround. Direct mail adds postage, which is paid to USPS separately from printing and should be budgeted on its own line. Send the format, the quantity and the date and we will send an estimate.
Can you handle the mailing as well as the printing?
Yes, including Every Door Direct Mail. We build the artwork to qualify as a USPS flat, place the required indicia, and prepare the paperwork side so the drop is not turned away at the counter. For targeted mailings we work from your list or a purchased list and handle addressing and preparation.
Full postcard and EDDM size rules, stocks and finishing options are on the commercial printing page, and cards are covered on the business card printing page.
Need the layout built? Graphic design, or branding if the whole identity needs rules first.
We print and mail for businesses throughout Colorado Springs and El Paso County, including Falcon, Fountain, Manitou Springs, Security-Widefield, Woodland Park and the Tri-Lakes area. Carrier routes can be selected anywhere USPS delivers.
